There is something magical about walking into a small Ohio bakery and catching that first warm whiff of cinnamon and butter. You expect a decent pastry, then you take a bite and suddenly your whole week feels better.
Across Ohio, tucked into little towns and busy city corners, there are bakeries turning out cinnamon rolls so good they deserve a spotlight. We tracked down seven of the very best, and each one earns its place for a different delicious reason.
1. Fox in the Snow Cafe, Columbus

Fox in the Snow opened its original Columbus café in 2014, and big, bready cinnamon rolls were part of the concept from the beginning. More than a decade later, the cinnamon roll remains on the regular menu, alongside sticky buns, galettes, biscuits and other scratch-made pastries.
What makes this version memorable is its scale. Ohio Magazine has described the cinnamon roll as the café’s top-selling pastry and noted that one can comfortably feed two or three people.
It arrives tall and dramatically spiraled, with a generous coating of icing worked over the top. Fox has grown well beyond its original Italian Village shop, with locations in German Village, Clintonville, Dublin, New Albany, Upper Arlington and Westerville as well.
Pair one with coffee and sharing becomes optional, even if it is probably sensible.
2. Rolls By The Pound, Newark

The name is unusually accurate. Rolls By The Pound makes cinnamon rolls that approach a pound apiece, turning an ordinary breakfast pastry into something that could easily be shared.
Owner Aaron Pound told WSYX that the dough is prepared fresh daily rather than frozen, with work beginning around 2 a.m., and that the cream cheese icing is also made fresh each morning.
That dedication has helped make cinnamon rolls the signature item at this Newark drive-through coffee and treat shop. Customers repeatedly single them out alongside the coffee, doughnuts and oatmeal cream pies, and the rolls have developed a reputation for both their size and soft texture.
This is the stop for anyone who believes a cinnamon roll should be excessive in the best possible way. Arrive hungry, because calling these things substantial is an understatement.
3. Hilliard Station Baking Co., Hilliard

Hilliard Station Baking Company earns the top spot because cinnamon rolls are not an afterthought here. In 2025, WSYX staff meteorologist Sarah Converse sampled rolls from more than 20 central Ohio bakeries and cafés and ranked Hilliard Station first.
The bakery told the station that its rolls are made from scratch and finished with its signature buttercream icing.
The best time to try one is when the roll is still warm and that icing has begun settling into the spirals. These are the classic kind of cinnamon rolls that do not need wild toppings or novelty flavors to get attention.
Soft dough, plenty of cinnamon and sweet buttercream do the work. The bakery sits on Main Street in Hilliard, and its strong local reputation makes an early visit a smart move, especially when fresh rolls are the goal.
4. Miller’s Bakery, Millersburg

A cinnamon-roll ranking in Ohio would feel incomplete without at least one serious Amish Country contender. Miller’s Bakery sits outside Millersburg on Township Highway 356 and combines a no-frills country setting with shelves and cases filled with breads, cookies, pies, doughnuts, fritters and other baked goods.
Cinnamon rolls and cinnamon buns are repeatedly mentioned among the bakery’s popular items, and customers also seek out its cinnamon twists and apple fritters. The rolls tend toward the generous, old-fashioned style rather than the carefully decorated café variety.
Some visitors describe them as large enough to split between several people. Miller’s is also a genuine bakery rather than a sit-down restaurant, so the best plan is simple: arrive early, pick out a roll and add whatever else in the pastry case proves impossible to resist.
5. Hershberger’s Farm & Bakery, Millersburg

Hershberger’s turns cinnamon-roll hunting into a full Amish Country excursion. The family-owned Millersburg destination combines its bakery with a farm store, produce, buggy rides and a large animal area, but the bakery alone provides enough reason to stop.
Its bakers begin working before sunrise, making breads, doughnuts, cookies, pies, fry pies and cinnamon rolls from family recipes. The bakery says its baked goods are made from scratch without preservatives.
Better still, Hershberger’s specifically sells its cinnamon rolls as a signature product. They are baked fresh daily and sold four to an eight-inch pan, with the bakery describing them as soft and gooey.
These are unapologetically country-style rolls, exactly what many travelers hope to find while driving the back roads around Millersburg. Just leave room for a fry pie too.
6. Sweet Mary’s Bakery, Akron

Sweet Mary’s is a downtown Akron micro-bakery where the words “from scratch” actually define the operation. The bakery opened in 2015 and starts baking early each morning, producing pastries, cookies, scones, quiche, cheesecakes and other treats.
Its own website even notes that early walkers downtown may catch the smell of cinnamon rolls drifting onto Mill Street.
That is not just clever marketing. Cinnamon rolls are recognized as one of Sweet Mary’s specialties, and local coverage has documented the bakery making cinnamon-roll glaze.
The shop has also earned significant hometown support: Signal Akron readers selected Sweet Mary’s as the city’s top bakery in both 2025 and 2026. The cinnamon rolls fit the bakery’s overall personality perfectly: familiar comfort food made carefully in relatively small batches rather than mass-produced pastries designed to sit around all day.
7. Bakery Unlimited, Toledo

Bakery Unlimited represents the old-school end of this ranking. The Toledo bakery has been operating since 1989 and traces its baking knowledge through three generations.
Its focus remains scratch-made baked goods using family recipes, with everything from doughnuts and cakes to pies, breads, bear claws and seasonal paczki filling the cases.
Cinnamon rolls remain firmly on the menu rather than surviving as an occasional special. The bakery lists them among its pastry offerings and currently sells individual cinnamon rolls through its online shop.
There are locations on Secor Road in Toledo and on West Sylvania Avenue in Sylvania, making this one of the easier northwest Ohio choices on the list. This is not the place chasing elaborate cinnamon-roll trends.
It is the place to grab a familiar, scratch-made bakery classic from a business that has been feeding Toledo’s sweet tooth for decades.
