When I first started hiking long distances, my backpack was a monster – bulging with “just in case” items and far heavier than I realized. Over time, I learned that every ounce matters. Cutting my pack weight in half didn’t just make hiking easier – it completely changed how I experience the outdoors. Here’s what I discovered.

1. Ounces Add Up Faster Than You Think

Ever wondered how quickly ounces turn into pounds? Weighing each item individually opened my eyes to this. My once-trusty flashlight, with its heavy-duty batteries, was a lead weight.
