You turn off a quiet country road in Florida, expecting a plain little pasture, and then a shaggy orange face with a wild fringe of bangs ambles right up to say hello. Highland cows look like they wandered out of a storybook, and meeting one in person is even better than the photos.
Across the Sunshine State, small family farms are opening their gates so you can pet, feed, and snap a selfie with these fluffy giants. Here are ten spots worth the drive, from weekend-only ranches to a cafe that treats cow cuddles like dessert.
1. Cow Creek Farm, Plant City, FL

Strawberry country has a fluffier side. Tucked off Five Acre Rd in Plant City, Cow Creek Farm has been raising Scottish Highland cattle since late 2015, and the whole operation grew from the ground up with family, friends, and plenty of late nights.
Highlands are the only focus here. The farm handles everything from breeding to brushing, halter training to head rubs, all aimed at raising what it calls the happiest and fluffiest highlands around.
That daily handling shows when a calm, shaggy cow leans in for a scratch.
Tours are booked ahead, and guests get to pet and feed the herd. The farm openly invites you to stick around for a picture or two, so bring a charged phone.
Hours run Saturday and Sunday from 8 AM to 3 PM, with a free on-site parking lot and a gender-neutral restroom.
2. Whispering Oaks Miniature Ranch, Clermont, FL

Think of a Highland cow, then shrink it to something closer to a big dog. Whispering Oaks Miniature Ranch in Clermont breeds Mini Highland and HighPark cattle, plus HiBelts and Panda-marked crosses, with a strong focus on friendly, pet-level temperaments.
The ranch also raises miniature donkeys, so the cuteness comes in more than one shape. A Mini Cow Safari is in the works, and signing up for the ranch newsletter gets you first word on dates and available calves.
Visiting windows are short, so plan ahead. Saturdays run 9 AM to 1 PM and Sundays 10 AM to noon, with on-site parking and a restroom.
3. The Rustic Ranch, New Smyrna Beach, FL

Beach towels can wait. Just inland along State Rte 415, The Rustic Ranch swaps salt air for hay bales and a barnyard full of mini and dwarf animals that love company.

Beyond the pens, a general store and a lineup of games and activities keep kids and grownups busy. Public hours land on Saturdays from 9 AM to 3 PM, with weekday visits by appointment.
Want more time? The ranch even offers RV stays.
4. Feral Ranch, Lake Helen, FL

Kids get activities of their own, and a food truck serving empanadas has been part of the scene, along with farm-fresh eggs for sale. The ranch also hosts birthday parties and events at its picturesque venue.

6. Rooterville Animal Sanctuary, Melrose, FL

Cuddling a cow is an actual bookable activity at Rooterville. Since 2004, this sanctuary in the woods of Melrose has given rescued farm animals a calm home, and visitors a chance to slow way down.
Cow cuddling sessions are the headline, featuring an especially charming Highland. You can also feed friendly farm animals, wander a butterfly garden, and browse a gift shop with unique finds.
Overnight guests can sleep in a covered wagon or farmhouse, or bring an RV or tent. Gates open Friday through Sunday, 10 AM to 2 PM, and gift certificates make a sweet present.
7. Mayhem Ranch, Morriston, FL

One hundred seventy acres and more than 50 animal species, that is the scale at Mayhem Ranch. This family-owned agritourism farm near Ocala specializes in miniature cattle and exotic hoof stock.
Guided tours stop so you can feed several cattle varieties, including adorable Highlands, plus goats and donkeys. Staff know their animals well, and baby goat snuggles are often on the menu too.
Every season brings something new. Fall means pumpkins and a festival, winter welcomes Santa’s reindeer, and spring is baby season with births nearly every day.
Weekend hours run 11 AM to 6 PM.
8. Violette Hill Hay Farm, Mt Dora, FL

Hay bales by the stack, and a Highland cow waiting nearby. Violette Hill Farm opened in 2024 along Orange Blossom Trail in Mt Dora, and it doubles as a hay supplier and a family playground.
Cows, including a Scottish Highlander, mingle with goats, pigs, bunnies, chickens, a pony, and a donkey, and you can pet and feed them. Extras include an animal cafe, goat playground, pony rides, farm school, and toddler classes.
Seasonal fun includes a pumpkin patch and Christmas on the Farm with tractor sleigh rides. Open Wednesday through Sunday, with free parking.
9. The Fluffy Cow Café, St. Augustine, FL

Bottle feeding a baby Highland calf might be the cutest thing you do all year. The Fluffy Cow Cafe in St. Augustine builds its whole experience around unhurried, gentle animal moments.
Miniature Highlands lead the cast, joined by goats, sheep, horses, pigs, alpacas, a donkey, a camel, and more. Guests can feed and learn about the herd, and the bottle feeding option gets you face to face with the littlest ones.
Hours stretch across most of the week, closed Tuesday and Wednesday. Saturdays and Sunday afternoons are busiest, while Friday evenings are quietest, with free parking.
10. Big Oaks Mini Farm, Okahumpka, FL

Here is the true hidden gem of the list. Big Oaks Mini Farm in tiny Okahumpka is not regularly open to the public, which makes a visit feel like a lucky invitation.
Miniature Scottish Highland cattle are the farm’s heart and passion. The family loves sharing the breed and teaching guests what makes these shaggy cattle special.
