Arizona is hundreds of miles from the nearest ocean, yet some of the freshest fish in the West is sold right here in the Valley. The trick is simple: these markets put seafood on planes so it lands in Phoenix and Scottsdale fast.
That means you can buy sashimi-grade salmon, raw oysters, or a fillet for dinner without driving to the coast. Here are five spots worth knowing about the next time a seafood craving hits in the desert.
1. Nelson’s Meat + Fish Phoenix, Phoenix, AZ

Fresh fish arriving by air every day is the big selling point at this Arcadia-area market on Indian School Road. It pairs a seafood counter with a meat case, so one stop can cover both halves of a dinner plan.
The shop carries high-quality fish alongside prepared specialties, and the lobster roll is the item that pulls in plenty of lunchtime shoppers. It makes a handy grab-and-go option when you want coastal flavor without turning on the stove.
Prices run on the higher side, and that is the honest trade-off for seafood that travels by plane instead of truck. I would save this stop for a special dinner or a weekend cook that deserves better ingredients.
Plan ahead on timing. The market is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:30 AM to 5 PM and closed Sunday and Monday.
There is no delivery, so you will need to pick up in person at 2415 E Indian School Rd.
2. Chula Seafood South Scottsdale, Scottsdale, AZ

San Diego is the source here, with seafood flown in daily and sold just off Roosevelt Street in south Scottsdale. The space is small, part kitchen and part market, which gives it a focused, no-fuss setup.
Shoppers can buy fish by the pound to cook at home. Anyone hungry right away can order from the counter, where the menu leans toward poke bowls, sashimi platters, sandwiches, clam chowder, and raw shucked oysters.
A few sides stand out for being a little unexpected. Smoked pineapple, potato mac salad, and vegan onigiri round out a Hawaiian-leaning lineup that suits a quick lunch.
Service is counter-style with no reservations, and there is outdoor seating plus a free parking lot. Hours are easy to remember, too: 10 AM to 6 PM every day of the week, which makes it a reliable pick for a Sunday or Monday seafood run.
3. Nelson’s Meat + Fish Scottsdale, Scottsdale, AZ

North Scottsdale residents do not have to trek to Phoenix for Nelson’s, thanks to this second location on Scottsdale Road. It shares the same daily coastal flight program as its sister shop, so the fish case gets the same attention to freshness.
The seafood here is known for looking pristine and super-fresh, with a lineup of fish and shellfish that rewards anyone who likes to cook. Quality meat sits right next to the seafood, which helps if half the household wants steak.
Service is a strong part of the appeal. Staff are known for being helpful, which matters when you are picking a cut or deciding how much to buy.
Visits tend to be quick. Find it at 14224 N Scottsdale Rd, Suite 175, open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:30 AM to 5 PM.
Sunday and Monday are off days, and delivery is not offered.
4. Chula Seafood Uptown, Phoenix, AZ

Exposed brick and hand-painted maritime artwork set the scene at this Camelback Road location, one of the more stylish places in Phoenix to shop for fish. It works as both a market and a casual order-and-sit restaurant.
The raw bar is the headliner. Freshly shucked oysters, tuna, and scallops come straight from Chula’s Pacific supply line, and the sashimi-grade salmon is a standout.
Cooked dishes cover plenty of ground. Tuna katsu, fish and chips, a Hawaiian plate lunch, grilled oysters, a lobster roll, and a California burrito all share the menu.
Families will find high chairs and a kids’ menu, and dogs are welcome on the outdoor patio. Reservations are not taken, but free parking is usually easy.
Hours stretch later than most markets, running 10 AM to 8 PM most days and until 9 PM on Friday and Saturday.
5. Chula Seafood Grayhawk, Scottsdale, AZ

Finding fresh fish in the desert takes effort, and the Grayhawk outpost on Hayden Road makes it look easy. The market case often holds scallops, halibut, salmon, lox, shrimp, and mahi.
Hungry now instead of later? The kitchen turns out grilled and crispy fish tacos, lobster rolls, clam chowder, and a tuna melt with its own following.
Mediterranean bowls with salmon and daily specials keep regulars from ordering the same thing twice.
Unlike the other Chula shops, this one accepts reservations and offers table service along with counter ordering. There is also a full vegetarian menu, a kids’ menu, and dog-friendly seating.
Friday evening is the busiest stretch, while weekday mornings and Tuesdays stay calmer. Doors open at 11 AM daily and close at 8 PM, or 9 PM on Friday and Saturday.
Free parking includes a garage, lot, and street spaces.
