14. Mount McKinley – Denali (Alaska, USA)
Denali stands at 6,190 meters and is the highest peak in North America. Located deep in the Alaskan wilderness, it is one of the coldest mountains on Earth due to its high latitude.
Temperatures on the upper mountain can plunge to minus 60 degrees Celsius, and wind chills make conditions feel even more extreme.

15. Mount Vinson (Antarctica)
Mount Vinson is the highest peak on the continent of Antarctica, reaching 4,892 meters above sea level. Compared to the other mountains on this list, it has claimed relatively few lives, but the conditions surrounding it make any emergency a potential death sentence.
There are no nearby hospitals, no quick evacuation routes, and very limited rescue resources anywhere on the continent.
Temperatures at Vinson regularly drop below minus 40 degrees Celsius, and the Antarctic plateau generates fierce katabatic winds that can appear without warning. The extreme isolation means climbers must be entirely self-sufficient, carrying all their food, fuel, and emergency gear for the entire expedition.
Most climbers reach Vinson as part of the Seven Summits challenge, the goal of climbing the highest peak on every continent. The logistical cost alone makes it one of the most expensive mountaineering objectives in the world.
